What is heavy menstrual bleeding or heavy periods?

A heavy flow period, (or ‘menorrhagia’), is defined as excessive or prolonged menstrual bleeding that disrupts daily life, often lasting over 7 days or exceeding 80ml of blood loss. Common signs include changing products every 1-2 hours, passing large clots, or doubling up on pads.
